Policies Facilitators Should Know

We created this page to explain the requirements and responsibilities of the students as DeCal facilitators, from course fee, university policies, risk management to accommodating students with special needs and more. Finding a Faculty Sponsor

Finding a faculty sponsor may be one of the first and most difficult steps to starting your DeCal. We're offering some tips to prospective facilitators and sharing some of our experiences in the Finding a Faculty Sponsor page.

Undergraduate Course Facilitator Training and Resources

The UCFTR office provides pedagogical support to Cal undergraduates interested in or currently facilitating a DeCal.  In addition to providing pedagogical support, the UCFTR office also serves as a campus liaison and informational resource to students, staff and faculty with questions related to campus policy and/or the logistics of starting or sponsoring a DeCal.

Timelines & Deadlines

Do you know that there are two general deadlines to submit DeCal forms? For one, there is a campus-wide deadline and another departmentally-imposed deadline. Read more about it in the Timelines & Deadlines page.

Forms

Paperwork happens. Luckily, all you need are a couple of forms—designed with you in mind. Download and print all your necessary paperwork on our Forms page.

Writing a Syllabus

The course syllabus is your primary tool for making sure that your class has a “map” to follow. It is a very useful way to develop your vision for how the class will work and also a requirement for the course proposal process. Funding

If facilitators need resources beyond the scope that the departments can provide, they should consider applying for the Education Enhancement Fund, which the Associated Students of University California created specifically for DeCal courses. Read more about it in Funding.
